The BlackBerry Analytics Service, announced back in September, has just gone live in a public beta, offering app developers the tools needed to track their users. Metrics range from number of active users, how many new users an app has gained, how often, in which way, and how much apps are used, along with a smattering of demographical data. This kind of stuff is vital for ad-supported apps, but it’s also helpful for tweaking the layout and feature set based on usage. Data is accessible through a web interface, so devs can check numbers whereever they are, and enabling their apps for the service only takes a few lines of code.
The BlackBerry Analytics Service looks like it will go hand-in-hand with RIM’s Advertising Service, though I’m sure it could be equally used with any outside advertising partner app developers chose to run with. The analytics are powered by Webtrends, who cover all sorts of online traffic data, ranging from social networks, to enterprise products, to mobile apps.
