An image of Nokia’s yet to be announced E6 has recently sprung onto the internet and while it’s a little bit blurry, it shows a lot of promise. First thing you’ll notice is the full metal body that has a striking resemblance to the E71. The E72, the successor to the E71, felt a little cheap and was a tad disappointing. Without even holding the E6, we’re pretty sure from this one picture alone that it’s going to be a solid device. Second thing you can’t miss is the homescreen, which looks like it’s running Symbian^3 due to the all too familiar white and grey dots indicating additional homescreens where you can store additional widgets and shortcuts. We don’t have too much information about the E6 other than the fact that it has a small 2.4 inch screen that supposedly has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. If we had to take a guess we’d say this thing is going to have the exact same specifications as the C7. That’s typically what Nokia does when creating a product portfolio. They build one specific hardware platform, a set of specifications if you will, and then try and mangle that platform into as many form factors and product variants as humanly possible.
When Stephen Elop became the new CEO of Nokia back in September of last year, one thing he specifically mentioned he’d do is fix the problem of the Finnish firm announcing handsets and then shipping them up to 6 months later. This is the second or third E6 leak we’ve seen in a few months now, so we’re certain that a Q2 announcement is going to occur. How long it’ll take until it hits the market is a whole other story, but if this launches before the iPhone 5 then it may help Nokia and their ever decreasing share of the smartphone market.
