Mobile social gaming network OpenFeint is teaming up with Chinese online game operator and developer The9 to help top game developers port their apps to Android. Backed by the $100 million Fund9, the initiative will see the two companies reviewing and selecting top games for porting to Google’s mobile OS. OpenFeint integration is also expected as part of the deal and so is localization for the Chinese market.
The mentioned Fund9 is a China-based development fund that invests in mobile app, game engine and platform technology developers around the world. OpenFeint on its end has over 68 million players in 4,800 games on Android and iOS platforms.
From what I can tell, this is a great opportunity for developers, most of which already think about (or actively work on) porting their apps to the increasingly popular Android platform. They get to access some additional capital while potentially tapping the ever-growing Chinese market. Sweet.
If you’re a developer, you should email androidfund@openfeint.com to express interest and learn more about the opportunity.
