PC Classic Death Rally Releases on the iPhone & iPad; Price Dropped to Celebrate

If you’ve been playing Reckless Racing but wish your top-down racing game had more guns and violence, then you’ll be happy to hear that Remedy Entertainment has just released an iOS version of the PC classic, Death Rally, onto the App Store.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing Death Rally when it was released back in 1996, then here’s a short rundown of what the game is about. You’re a racer who is dropped in the middle of vehicular death matches as you battle your way to the top while attempting to avoid enemies’ bullets, missiles, and other weapons that will blow up your car real good. The game has received a number of updates to take advantage of iOS, especially the iPad 2.

Players start off with a clunker vehicle called “Vagabond.” It may not be the fastest, strongest, and it might have one too many stains in the back seat, but it’ll get the job done to survive the first Death Rally challenge. Then, as you progress through the game you’ll start to earn money that can be used to purchase tune-ups, repairs, and upgrade your car. You can also use the money to purchase a number of more lethal weapons as well as new vehicles to race with.

Remedy Entertainment has also thrown in a couple of easter eggs in the game which fans of PC, Console, and iOS games will take notice of. Some of the characters you might run in to will be Duke Nukem, John Gore from Minigore, and Alan Wake’s annoyingly hilarious sidekick, Barry Wheeler. Remedy also promises they will continue supporting Death Rally with new tracks, guns, cars, challenges, multiplayer, and even new guest drivers like Mighty Eagle from Angry Birds in upcoming updates.

Remedy has marked down the price of Death Rally to celebrate its release from $5.99 to $4.99. Best thing about the game is that it’s a universal app.
