Last week Scotiabank hinted that they would be launching some mobile services, and now SMS alerts and iPhone and BlackBerry applications are available. The apps are little more than ATM and branch locators bolstered by GPS integration, which is too bad – I’m sure a lot of folks would like to be able to check their balance and do the usual online banking stuff through a mobile app. The SMS InfoAlerts are actually more useful in that you can be notified by text of debit and credit card transactions, as well as get daily or weekly updates of your acount balances, minimum payments due, and alerts when you’ve hit specific Visa or line of credit balances.
It’s a bit perverse that InfoAlerts is offering more to the table than the apps, but if you’re interested anyway, the BlackBerry app is available here, and the iPhone app can be nabbed in iTunes here. Hit up Scotiabank’s mobile services page for more details on InfoAlerts. Personally, I’m more excited about what Bank of Montreal is offering.
