Alltel has launched a salvo of handsets today: the LG Axis, the Samsung Gem, the HTC Merge, and the Motorola Milestone X. We’ve seen the Samsung Gem land on US. Cellular not long ago, and the Milestone X on Bluegrass Cellular a few Months ago, but Alltel’s old parent company, Verizon, still hasn’t picked up the HTC Merge (though they’re expected to). I’m not sure why Alltel is announcing the LG Axis since it looks like they launched it back in January.
The LG Axis is an entry-level Android handset with a 3.2-inch 800 x 400 screen and 3.2 megapixel camera. The Samsung Gem is around the same ballpark, also with a 3.2-inch 800 x 400 display and 3.2 megapixel camera, only it’s missing the slide-out keyboard. The HTC Merge by comparison is higher-end, boasting a 5 megapixel camera, 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen, and an 800 Mhz processor. The Motorola Milestone X steps things up further, with a display clocking in at 4.3 inches, HDMI-out, a 1 GHz processor, as well as an 8 megapixel camera with 720p video recording.
The Milestone X will be available April 14, while the Samsung Gem, LG Axis, and HTC Merge are available today for free, $79.99, and $124.99 respectively on a two-year contract.
