We told you Sony Ericsson is preparing to launch Android-powered Walkman smartphones and voila – the first such device has been unveiled. The Swedish-Japanese handset maker hasn’t issued the official press release, but we did spot the W8 at their website.
Specs wise, we’re talking about a phone which is pretty much the same as the Xperia X8 with specs including a 3.2-megapixel camera, 3-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen (we think it’s a 3-inch screen), HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, 600MHz processor, 128MB of RAM and a memory card slot. Android 2.1 is running the show and we doubt this baby will ever be upgraded to Gingerbread. It may get the Froyo update and that’s about it. In that sense, the W8 seems slated for Asia and possibly some parts of Europe, or so we think.
We don’t know when Sony Ericsson will release the W8, but we do know it will be available in few color options, including azure, orange and red. As soon as we hear something new, we’ll let you know. Stay tuned in the meantime, k?
