RIM’s home-made Podcasts application has been updated to version 1.5, which now takes advantage of Google’s RSS search to find podcasts, and also lets you take a look or listen at your shows as they’re being downloaded over Wi-Fi or 3G. The UI has also been shuffled around a bit so categories have more pronounced icons, which is a nice touch.
Podcasts launched about a year ago, effectively replacing the PodTrapper app as a way of wirelessly downloading regularly-updated online audio and video shows. The app keeps tabs on your subscriptions, where you left off mid-show, and display which episodes are freshly downloaded. The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet launched with its own brand new Podcasts application that does pretty much the same thing, but takes advantage of the considerably larger screen.
Head over to BlackBerry App World to download the latest version of Podcasts, but if you can’t find it there for your device, sit tight – it should be there within the next 24 hours. This release is just for North America – not sure how long until it hits the rest of the world.
