Motorola Atrix 4G users have a little goodie to look forward to today as AT&T and Motorola are updating the device to version 4.1.83. The Atrix 4G is arguably one of the most advanced Android smartphones in AT&T’s line-up, and so the carrier and manufacturer are making sure it stays in the game. So, what can you expect from the update once it’s completed? A number of bug fixes and performance enhancements:

  • Increased potential data speed
  • Improvements to limit interruptions to data connection
  • Improvements to prevent screen from freezing
  • Improved ability for users to receive email notifications so you know when you have a new message. Also, improvements were made so that you are now able to use the same email login to access both MOTOBLURâ„¢ and YouTube
  • Improvements to call audio function so it is easier for the person you called to hear you. Please note this application is not pre-loaded on the phone, but is available for download from the Android Market
  • Increased functionality by enabling Yahoo Email to be sent over a Wi-Fi connection
  • Improved International Roaming Warning Message by simplifying user notification so that it only appears on the screen when you move to a new network
  • Improved Happenings Widget to ensure that you receive the latest updates across the social networks you are connected to such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter
  • Improvements were made to incoming and outgoing call functionality to ensure a more seamless experience

So, basically, everything will be improved — except maybe battery life, which has been hit or miss with many Atrix 4G users. Perhaps in a future update!

Here’s how you go about getting your Android smartphone up to speed:

  1. Select “Download”
  2. After the software is downloaded, select “Install now”.
  3. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  4. Your phone is now updated with v4.1.83 software.

Now that’s if you’ve received the push notification for the update. If not, here’s how you do it manually:

  1. Select the Settings icon in the main menu.
  2. Select “About phone”.
  3. Select “System updates”.
  4. Select “Download”.
  5. After the software is downloaded, select “Install”.
  6. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  7. Your phone is now updated with v4.1.83 software.

Simple as that! Now get to updating and let us know how it works out for you!
