Twitter has updated its mobile website, making it easier to use on iOS and Android devices. The plan is to further optimize the mobile web experience and make it more compelling for those with no Twitter apps (anyone?). However, it’s important to add that optimizing the mobile website for iOS and Android devices is just a first step – the idea is to make it more usable for all mobile users, whether they have a smartphone or not.
According to the Twitter platform lead Ryan Sarver, it [Twitter] needs to “ensure that tweets, and tweet actions, are rendered in a consistent way so that people have the same experience with tweets no matter where they are.”
Apparently the new mobile website is built from the ground up, taking advantage of the latest technologies including HTML5 and gesture-based actions. Users can access their timelines and @mentions, read messages in conversation view, search them; watch for trending topics, lists, and more. In a nutshell, the mobile version of the site is made to look similar to the desktop version, people got used to…
