The iPhone 5 rumors never cease, and this time we’ve got leaked images of a case which point to a few new design cues for the coming Apple smartphone. It’s not uncommon for case manufacturers to get design specs, dummy models or working models prior to a new iPhone’s release so that they can start making accessories. That’s how so many cases and other accessories are available for the iPhone immediately whenever new versions launch.
An Asian trading site called AliBaba claims to have iPhone 5 cases for sale, and they show that the new screen reaches edge-to-edge (i.e. there is no longer any space or empty glass on either side of the display). It also hints at the lack of a bezel, so perhaps the new Apple smartphone will be sleeker and thinner, especially around the edges.
Another interesting item is that the camera flash has been moved further away from the camera lens – it’s basically on the opposite corner of the phone. If this is accurate, it could be a smart move on Apple’s part as the current flash location sometimes causes unwanted glare in photos, especially if it is reflected off of the opening of a hard case.
While we’re always curious about the new iPhone’s design and features, at this point we’re far more interested as to when this thing is actually going to launch. We’re constantly hearing summer, fall, early 2012 and so on, so we’re getting more anxious for WWDC in early June. If it is announced by Apple, we’re definitely right on the usual schedule, which is an annual summer release. If Apple doesn’t mention it at WWDC, and doesn’t tell us whether it’s coming in the fall or early next year, the rumor mill will just keep on grinding.
