Layar adds support for third-party AR content creation tools

As part of the idea to mainstream the use of augmented reality services, Layar announced that it is “moving management and publication of AR content to third parties” through its new product – Layar Connect. As a result, developers will be able to create augmented reality content that can be accessed by Layar users with other “not made by Layar” tools such as BuildAR, Poistr, Visar and Poiz. Moreover, the same tools should work with Layar Player, allowing for creation of independent apps that don’t require end users to run Layar on their smartphones.

The mentioned Layar Creation Tools allow people without any technical background to easily create AR experiences. Moreover, as more companies launch their own Layar Creation Tools, the development of AR content becomes localized, enabling end users to access AR content in their own native language…

More information about Layar Connect and developer requirements is available from this page on Layar’s website.
