Order & Chaos Online generates $1 million in revenue in 20 days; First update in June

It’s been approximately a month since Gameloft released it’s World of Warcraft clone, Order & Chaos Online, onto the iOS market with much praise from gamers as it successfully offers a true MMO experience on the iPhone and iPad. The game even topped the App Store charts in its first week of being released. Today, Gameloft has announced the game has generated $1 million dollars in revenue in just 20 days of being released.

To celebrate the milestone of generating $1 million in revenue, Gameloft has announced its plans for the first free update to Order & Chaos Online. The update is scheduled to be rolled out this month and will include new quests, a dedicated chat channel for each language and a server migration service. Gameloft also has plans to implement more updates further along the game’s lifespan to include new dungeons and PvP arenas which will allow players to fight one another within a dedicated space.

One thing I’m curious about with today’s news is if the $1 million in revenue is from players purchasing the app, purchasing subscriptions, or both. Seeing as I still have until July to play my initial free 3 months of service for purchasing the game, I would assume the majority of the revenue was from people making the initial purchase of the game. That’s not to say today’s news isn’t incredible, although it’s pale in comparison to sales of games like Cut the Rope or Angry Birds. This should still be a momentous occasion for Order & Chaos Online players as well as fans of MMOs on mobile devices. Hopefully Blizzard will catch wind of this game’s success and finally decide to offer a mobile version of World of Warcraft, although we HIGHLY doubt that.
