Those business types that regularly dial in to conference calls will want to check out a new BlackBerry app launched by RIM that should help you connect quickly to any big calls on your schedule. The Mobile Conferencing app has been in testing for a little while now, and plugs right into the native calendar and phone applications.
With the new app, calendar items for conference calls now have fields for dial-in numbers and passcodes, with shortcuts to launch into the call when your appointment reminder pops up. On top of that, if you lose your connection mid-call, a pop-up offers you a chance to reconnect with one tap – a very nice addition. Organizers will also have the option to share moderator dial-in codes with only specific invitees.
These are some solid improvements, and no doubt welcome features for businessfolk who spend a lot of time on the phone. I would assume these features will be baked directly into OS 7, which is launching on the Bold 9900, but maybe RIM would rather keep these features separate as to not clutter the experience for everyday consumers.
You can find the new conferencing app for free in BlackBerry App World.
