We announced yesterday that the HTC EVO 4G for Sprint would be getting Android 2.3, or Gingerbread, early this month – June 6 for the OTA update, and June 3 for those who want to nab it manually. Of course, not everyone who owns an EVO 4G will know to download it manually, hence the over-the-air push updates which will go out in waves starting next Monday.
If you’d like to check for your update today, simply hit Menu>Settings>System Updates>HTC Software Update and you should be good to go!
It’s nice to see that the EVO, now over a year old and arguably Sprint’s first “superphone,” is still getting updated to the latest and greatest software. Historically, if you had an Android device of any kind with a custom UI, you could expect to forget about getting updates after about eight to ten months. However, the EVO has been right on time – especially with the first Android 2.2 Froyo updates late last summer. With its huge screen, 1GHz processor and 8MP camera, the EVO 4G has taught us what it means to be future-proof.
