Developer of “Touch Free Interfaces” eyeSight Mobile Technologies has added iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to the family of devices supported by its innovative technology. Android, Windows, Linux and Meego are already singing along eyeSight’s Hand Gesture Recognition Technology and the expansion to iOS will allow the company to further increase its offerings.
eyeSight’s software-based technology requires no special hardware and uses the standard (front-facing) camera to enable the easy usage of applications and content in situations in which touching the device is not ideal, such as driving and cooking. The company hopes that in those instances, users would rather opt to control their devices by using simple hand gestures.
At the moment, there is no single iOS application that takes advantage of eyeSight’s technology, but the company promised that a first such app will be launched soon.
Finally, in addition to smartphones and tablets, eyeSight also “eyes” other products, such as TVs, set top boxes and various other camera-enabled devices.
