I know it’s a lovely summer Friday and many of you already are eyeing the weekend but get ready for some hardcore mobile news coming next week, as the MobileBeat 2011 conference is coming to San Francisco July 12-13 at the Palace Hotel. It’s going to filled with thought leaders from the leading handset makers, carriers and app makers and IntoMobile readers can get in with a sweet little discount.

Click here to register and use the “VB-Into” promotional code to get 20 percent off. If you can’t make it to San Francisco for the event, you can be sure we’ll be giving you up-to-the-minute coverage of the event.

It’s not just going to be established players at MobileBeat 2011, as one of the things I’m most looking forward to is the startup competition. 16 startups will be vying for the crown (8 for infrastructure and 8 for consumer apps), so let’s take a look at the 8 consumer/mobile apps startups:

  • Tappmob — aims to create simple mobile apps that can do a lot with just one tap
  • SpeedySwipe — lets you take a picture of a credit card with your phone to complete a mobile transaction
  • Cross Travel — launching the world’s first whitelabel platform for hotel and trips bookings
  • DealNet — built a platform to serve daily deals coupons and other offers as location-based mobile ads
  • Gamzee – develops HTML5 games and will be on the upcoming Facebook mobile platform at launch
  • Akibot – a robot assistant that helps you be more productive with your smartphone
  • Polkast – allows you to connect your devices directly using local bandwidth and storage
  • Onavo – reduces the amount of mobile data you use so you never have to worry about the shock of a big data bill

I’m most looking forward to seeing what Akibot has up its sleeves because I love some robots. Hopefully, we’ll see you there.
