The HTC Thunderbolt was the first 4G LTE device for Verizon, packing Android 2.2 Froyo and tons of other goodies for early adopters. However, it wasn’t without its bugs and issues. A recent over-the-air, or OTA, update started to roll out over the weekend, and it promises to fix a number of these problems as well as bring some new features to the Android smartphone.
The software number version is 1.70.605.0, so you won’t be getting 2.3 Gingerbread with this update, unfortunately. However, you will be getting the following fixes and goodies:
- Improved data connectivity.
- Enhanced Call History view.
- Reduced number of device power cycles and resets.
- Improved Bluetooth® Discovery Mode pop-up window.
- View App Menu in tabbed layout.
- People search function enabled.
- Backup Assistant has been added to the All Apps menu.
- Preloaded My Verizon, V CAST Music and V CAST Videos.
- Desktop cradle App is now available, showing clock in landscape mode.
- NY Times site has been added into the browser bookmarks.
For those of you who have been frustrated with the HTC Thunderbolt due to random reboots and spotty connectivity issues, this just might solve all your woes. No word on whether it improves battery life (or battery death as we called it in our review), however, but cross your fingers that some of these enhancements will optimize energy usage.
