Get ready for some discounts coming to your handset, as Google has just acquired Dealmap and it will likely be bringing this location-based discount aggregator to your mobile phones.
Dealmap is a great way to find all of the Groupon, LivingSocial and other daily discounts that are around you and it’s easy to see how Google will use this technology. One could easily see this coming to the mobile version of Maps, or to include this in Offers or even to help this augment the check-in feature in Latitude.
In the blog announcing the acquisition, DealMap said:
We believe Google provides the ideal platform to help us accelerate our growth and fulfill our mission. We’re passionate about helping people save money while having great local experiences, and in Google we’ve found the perfect partner that shares this passion, as well as our vision and strategy. We believe that joining Google will help us innovate in new and unexplored areas of commerce.
There were no numbers thrown out but I’m sure it was much less than the $6 billion it was offering Groupon.
