Miramax wants its piece of the Facebook and iPad action. For that end they launched a movie rental Facebook app titled Miramax eXperience, which at the moment offers users catalog of 20 movies in the U.S., 10 in the UK and Turkey, with additional titles to be included in September.
Each movie can be rented for 30 Facebook credits (about $3) and must be watched within 30 days of payment. However, once the movie is started, you have 48 hours to finish it. What’s more, there’s a social gaming component built-in, allowing you to cast your friends in different roles of select movies.
Of course, iPad users will also be able to rent movies from Miramax’s Facebook app — it’s not a native application but a web-based one that can work on the iPad, Google TV and I guess other Android tablets. You can check it out from here.
Now if Miramax’s service proves successful, I’m sure other studios will follow shortly. We’ll see…
