Just because iOS 5 is still not available for the end users, that doesn’t mean developers can’t start making apps for the upcoming version of Apple’s mobile OS. bit.ly decided to help them [developers] out by releasing the iOS 5 compatible SDK to allow individuals and companies to make shorter URLs from their apps and take advantage of the new share-to-Twitter functionality which will be baked directly into iOS 5. Of course, bit.ly’s SDK will also keep the iOS 4 support via Twitter OAuth.
At the moment, the new bit.ly SDK is available to developers who have signed the applicable NDAs from Apple. If you’re in that group and want/need to add bit.ly branded URLs your app, contact them at api@bitly.com. After that — when your application is ready for the prime time — you can also prepare some press release and pitch IntoMobile to get some coverage on our site. Helping a small guy adds an extra meaning to our work. 😉
