Garmin is updating their premium navigation app to the iPhone. StreetPilot onDemand is priced at just $0.99, and includes includes a number of useful features not found in other apps. For instance, it gives users the ability to view public transportation routes and schedules, renders prominent buildings in 3D, automatically reroutes based on traffic, and Garmin’s signature photoReal Junction View. The latter provides photos of intersections and lane assistance.
I personally think the little details is really what makes any product shine, and the StreetPilot is chock full of them. My favorite is how the app can warn the user when surpassing the speed limit. And for longer destinations, the app even provides a full five-day weather forecast so you know what you’re getting yourself into. Garmin is known for having an easy-to-use navigation interface, and that reputation stands firm here. All the necessary tools for efficiently getting from point A to point B are up front and center. And for anything else, users can enable or disable particular features they may or may not want to deal with.
Though the app is priced at $0.99, it’s going to take a bit more cash than that to achieve the full effect. Premium goodies like turn-by-turn navigation and traffic rerouting require a subscription. After the 30-day free trial, the plans can either set you back $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year — not too bad considering what you get. Garmin is offering an introductory price of $19.99 for the annual subscription. The Garmin StreetPilot onDemand app is available now in the iPhone App Store – just hit the link below.
