Sony’s Digital Network Applications team has released a simple video trimmer application for Android. Available for all smartphones running Android 2.1 and higher, Sony’s app is as simple as it gets – you can use it to shrink videos by setting a start point, setting an end point, and tapping a trim button. It’s pretty straightforward and in that sense we’re kinda surprised Sony actually wants us to pay for it. Usually such basic apps are provided free of charge with some of the higher-end smartphones even featuring similar apps preloaded out of box. I guess Sony Ericsson device owners will get Sony Video Trimmer for free whereas the rest of us (who don’t own a Sony Ericsson smartphone) are expected to pay for the benefit. I don’t think that will happen.
To be fair, there’s one good thing about this app – size checking before trimming. You can check the estimated duration and file size at the center of the screen before actually trimming the video. You also can check the signals at the top to see if the file size is within the limit to upload to sites like YouTube…
