Leave it to none other than Galaxy S Support on Twitter to confirm T-Mobile will get their own variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. We already knew the Galaxy S II is coming to T-Mobile, but two specifications we didn’t know about are processor model and speed.
One Twitter user @MedeirosMusic got Galaxy S Support to spill the beans. Upon request to know the details of the processor inside T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II, @GalaxySsupport hesitantly replied with the boring information everyone already knew: dual-core processor. But Julian Medeiros was not about to give up. He pressed the support team for the real specifics and finally got some:
“@MedeirosMusic The Samsung #GalaxyS2 comes with a 1.5 dual core Qualcomm APQ8060 processor. ^Scot”
Though it’s not entirely a surprise to see Qualcomm inside, there you have it. Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T have all been dealing with 1.2 GHz dual-core variants of the Galaxy S II for some time now — which are still quite impressive, but T-Mobile will get to unleash the beast. Samsung is said to have chosen this specific chip for its compatibility with an MDM8220 modem for support on T-Mobile’s 42 Mbps network. Up in Canada, they’re launching a similar model.
If you’re looking this speed machine’s release date, you are left out of luck for now. T-Mobile and Samsung only confirm the device will ship this fall, but rumour has it we may see a launch on September 26. If you’re thinking of getting one, check out our review from the spring of the older model.
