Samsung Galaxy Glide going to Canada with slide out QWERTY keyboard

We’ve been wondering if a Galaxy S II Pro would ever make it to shelves anywhere and it looks like the closest thing to it will be landing on Rogers in Canada. The Samsung Galaxy Glide sports a 4-row QWERTY keyboard and some not so modest specs to go along with it.

While there still may be a Galaxy S II Pro on the way, the Galaxy Glide is about as close as it gets right now. It’s rocking a 4 inch Super AMOLED display and a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor of unknown origin, possibly Qualcomm, which should easily satisfy the power users who held off on the key-boardless GSII. It also sports an 8 megapixel rear facing camera and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera for video chat.

The specs of the Glide have been shaved down a bit throughout the device but we’re glad it still has a snappy dual-core processor. The 4 inch display may not big enough for some people but we’re fans of 4 inch displays, as they fit into the hand nicely. The 4 inch screen may also help the weight of the device, as the keyboard does look to add quite a bit of heft. Speaking of which, the keyboard looks awfully familiar to the original Epic 4G – minus the dedicated number row. We’ll let you interpret that anyway you want.

If you recall, this isn’t the first (or the second) time we’ve seen this particular handset before. At the time, it was believed to be destined for AT&T but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. We’d be surprised if we didn’t see a keyboard-toting variant of the already-popular Galaxy S II but when is another question.

While this may be a bit off topic, we certainly hope that if the rumored Nexus device does ship with a full QWERTY keyboard that Google takes control of the layout, as we’re certainly not fans of what we’ve seen Samsung come up with before.
