Safely, the personal security software provider we covered few days ago, announced a deal with Sprint to launch Safely Social Monitor and help parents monitor their kids’ activities on Facebook. The new service is available free of charge to Sprint customers and will be released on other carriers later this quarter.
Safely Social Monitor allows parents to:
- See who their kids’ Facebook friends are – who they speak to most frequently, and what their ages and genders are
- View newly posted photos of their kids
- Receive alerts when their kids use certain phrases
- Keep up with all of their kids via one account versus multiple accounts for each kid
The service works without requiring kids’ passwords and also includes free access to regularly published Safely Spotlights, featuring “valuable tips and advice”…
On one hand I don’t like impeding on anyone’s privacy, whether we’re talking about kids or grown-ups. On the other – it’s a tough world out there and I guess some guidance and monitoring is needed to keep the kids safe. What do you think?
