Foodspotting releases BlackBerry app to share your dishes online

After a lengthy stay on Android and iOS, Foodspotting has finally come to BlackBerry. Even Windows Phone got a release before BlackBerry.

Foodspotting is just what you’d imagine it is: you take pictures of your meals, and share ’em with the community at large, be it within Foodspotting’s own little corner, or out to larger networks like Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare. You can leave reviews for restaurants, peruse guides to unique local dishes, and earn badges and reputation points for your contributions. For a social foodie, Foodspotting looks like a great place to get cozy.

I’ve been waiting for this app for a long time. Foodspotting and RIM had partnered for an event at SXSW, which indicated we would see the app coming sooner than later, but that was back in March. As a dude who likes his food, and spends an unhealthy amount of time online, I’ve always been a fan of the social network but without a BlackBerry app, it was hard to get started. I don’t know what the hold-up was, but I really hope that QNX on BlackBerry (apparently to be branded as BBX) will offer an environment where developers can get their creations out the door more quickly than the old Java-based operating system. If not, Windows Phone could very quickly snag third place after Android and iOS when it comes to developer mind share.

If you’re interested in giving Foodspotting a shot, the free app is available for download over here.
