Halfbrick, developers and publishers of games like Fruit Ninja, Monster Dash, and Jetpack Joyride, have teamed up with developer Spry Fox to release a new turn-based dogfight game called Steambirds: Survival for the iPad and iPhone.
Steambirds: Survival takes place in a steampunk-styled war-torn Europe where it’s the player takes the role of an elite Allied pilot as he fights his way through wave after wave of Axis enemies. You’ll play across 64 missions, all varying in their objectives and difficulty, with eight aircrafts that have their own strengths and weaknesses. Your plane will also be able to collect and use power-ups, such as turning your plane 180° in order to attack enemies on your tail, although the game limits your plane’s power-up storage to six.
I spent some time with the game earlier today and I can tell you it’s definitely something that will keep players entertained for a while, especially at the low, low cost of free. Guiding your plane through the playing field is easy and the game offers a healthy dose of strategy that needs to be used in order to complete your mission goals. Did I also mention it was completely free?
