The mad scientists at Nokia’s Beta Labs have come up with a Google Street View clone called City Scene that has quite a few nifty features that the eggheads in Mountain View have yet to implement. Most impressive, similar to how Google will finish your query for you so you don’t need to type as many characters, City Scene does the same thing. City Scene will also show you where your friends have checked in on Foursquare, useful if you’re that dude who always whips out your phone the second you and your friends arrive at a bar just to get some points that don’t translate into anything meaningful in the real world. Now of course there are some caveats. The app only supports Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, but support for additional cities and eventually ones in Europe will come with time. That and the app only works on the Nokia N9, which is being sold in a handful of countries and will likely be ignored as soon as Nokia’s first Windows Phones start hitting the market.
Speaking about Nokia’s first Windows Phones, they’ll be announced in less than 24 hours at Nokia World in London. Our very own Marin Perez will be at the event, taking as many photos and videos as his memory card allows. We expect to see three devices there. One is the famous Sea Ray that Stephen Elop, Nokia’s CEO, leaked himself; it’ll likely retail as the Nokia 800. Then there’s the Sabre, which is a lower end Sea Ray. And finally there’s Ace, set to be a huge 4.3 inch smartphone that’s suited for the chubby fingers that compromise the vast majority of the American market.
