Fifty-year-old Brit Trevor Prideaux has embedded his Nokia C7 into prosthetic arm, allowing him to more easily use the Symbian-powered smartphone. First, he tried to embed the iPhone, but Apple wasn’t that interested to provide him with the “blank iPhone casing” during development. Then he contacted Nokia and the Exeter Mobility Centre, a disability service organization in his area, that helped accelerate production of the arm.
And the end result is pictured above.
Now, we’re hoping Trevor’s work won’t be an exception. Rather, something like this should hit the serial production, helping many other people who are missing limbs use smartphones.
Finally, in case you wonder, people behind this project included prosthethist Steve Gallichan, technician Les Street, and undergraduate worker Sarah Bennett. The team worked together on the laminated fiberglass prototype for five weeks.
