AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket first impressions

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is one of AT&T’s first 4G LTE phones and with the few days I’ve had with it, I think it’s safe to say that it’s the best Android phone on AT&T. I’ll have a full review up soon but I wanted to share some pictures and some initial thoughts.

Unlike AT&T’s Galaxy S II, the Skyrocket has a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen and while this is a large screen, the handset is quite manageable because of its thin and light form factor. The device feels extremely good in the hand, much like all of the other Galaxy S II devices.

The screen takes up the bulk of the face but you have the four standard Android buttons underneath it and a front-facing camera above it. You’ll also find the AT&T and Samsung brandings on the face. The right spine is clean except for a power/unlock button near the top and this performs well. The top is where you’ll find the standard headphone jack, the left spine has the volume rocker and the microUSB port is on the bottom.

Moving to the back, there’s that same plastic battery door found on other Samsung Galaxy S II devices but the Skyrocket’s feels very smooth. An 8-megapixel camera with flash can also be found on the back and overall, the design is pretty clean and minimalistic even if it’s not a stark departure from what we expect from the Galaxy line.

The Skyrocket comes with Android 2.3.5 with the TouchWiz UI and you can be sure that this will get Ice Cream Sandwich some day. Unfortunately, I’m not in an AT&T 4G LTE area but I will be in a few weeks, so I’ll really get a chance to put its network to the test.

Look for a full review shortly but you can rest assured that I already love this device. Check out the photos below and let us know what you think.
