If you’re familiar with Robot Entertainment’s Orcs Must Die! & Age of Empires Online, then you’ll know what kind of great gaming experiences they’re capable of. Which is exactly why I was excited to hear they’re working on a new game specifically for iOS called Hero Academy.
Hero Academy will blend classic strategic tactics with the quick action gameplay of recent casual titles as players take part in one-on-one battles. Players will be able to deploy a number of different character classes, cast spells, use countermeasures, and items in order to attack their opponents and defend their turf. You’ll be able to choose up to five moves, such as advancing through the playing field, attacking, defending, or using items. Once you’re done selecting your moves, you’ll submit your turn, to which your opponent will select their moves. Once a player destroys another player’s crystals, the game is over.
Multiplayer is completely asynchronous, so you’ll have the ability to battle friends across multiple simultaneous games and be able to play when they’re able to. Push notifications are used to alert players of their turn and a built-in chat system will allow players to communicate with one another while playing.
When Hero Academy launches this Winter, two unique teams will be made available with five units to command. Robot Entertainment plans to further develop for the game after launch by delivering more teams, avatars, and add-ons that will be available via in-app purchase.
