We’re fans of the real-time opinion app Opinionaided but it will be going away. Well, at least the name will be going away as the company, as it will now be known simply as Thumb.
You can go to Thumb-it.com to check out the rebranded company and app (don’t go to Thumb.com unless you like thumb costumes) but it’s the same Opinionaided app that you should know and love. Basically, you ask a question and get a lot of real-time, instant opinions from the community. I’ve found that the feedback can be pretty good and there’s a lot of potential for this in something like mobile shopping. If you already use Opinionaided, your account will be ported over without any fuss.
“We loved the Opinionaided name and the meaning behind it, but it was just too long and confusing to spell,” said Dan Kurani, CEO of Thumb, in a prepared statement. “While Thumb is a quirky name, it gets to the core of what we’re all about and matches the simplicity of the product. Further, it aligns exceptionally well with our product vision of creating a vehicle for light weight interactions that produce deep meaning.”
What do you think of the new name? I agree that Opinionaided was a bit long but I’m not so sure that I love the name “Thumb.” First of all, it’s going to lead to some odd conversations – “Hey, will you Thumb me?” – and they couldn’t secure the thumb.com name. Still, I like what the company is trying to do and a silly name hasn’t stopped others from being successful.
