Kik Messenger is expanding its service into other, third-party apps with a brand new API.
As a result, a whole new category of applications is emerging (Apps That Kik) that enable Kik users to discover and download new stuff right inside Kik Messenger.
Kik’s idea is to help developers “achieve immediate growth and momentum” using the API, while at the same time promoting its messaging capabilities. App developers on their end are able to integrate sharing features with just few lines.
Initial apps in the public API launch include:
- Zwonks – a casual social game that is the “hottest in collectible virtual toys”
- FlyScreen – Android app that brings content and notifications to the lock screen
- Smiler – an iPhone app that allows users to send greeting cards and customized emoticons to their friends
- DrinkOwl – allows users to find a cheap drink in their cities
- FileKicker – for sending files to other Kik Messenger users.
Sounds cool? You can get additional information on how to integrate API into your app from this page.
