Star Marine: Infinite Ammo for iOS puts Contra in your pocket

One of the greatest video game franchises of all time has got to be Konami’s Contra series. There’s just something so satisfying about making your way through a number of interesting and detailed locales while shooting the snot out of anything that gets in your way. While Konami has yet to create an official port for mobile platforms, that won’t stop developer GlitchSoft from creating a side-scrolling shooter that pays homage to the great Contra.

In Star Marine: Infinite Ammo, you play as Arc who has been captured by an alien race in order to become enslaved and do some manly work for them like killing spiders, setting up their home theater system, or even opening a jar of pickles. Fortunately for Arc, he happens to be a trained elite Star Marine and decides to use his years of training in order to free himself from enslavement and make those who captured him pay for messing with the wrong Star Marine.

As you’ll see in the screenshots and trailer below, you control Arc with two analog sticks: one for movement, while the other to aim his shots. So, I guess you can consider this a twin-stick run-n-gun game. During Arc’s adventure, he’ll come across a large number of weapons, enemies, and even the occasional boss battle. Outside of the campaign, Star Marine: Infinite Ammo also has a boss rush mode, which tests your ability to make your way through all of the game’s bosses in the fastest time, and survival mode, which throws wave after wave of enemies at Arc. The game also features 80 challenges, 30 Game Center achievements, and online leaderboards support.

If you’re a fan of old-school shooters such as Contra, then this looks like it’s an ideal game for you to pick up on your iOS device.
