While we already figured the Samsung Galaxy S III would be announced during Mobile World Congress next month, a tweet from Eldar Murtazin has further confirmed this, along with a few specs of the handset.
HD resolution, 12 mpx camera, sw tweaks, android 4 – i like my new phone. Eager to see official announcement in Barcelona
Everything mentioned seems to be what we’d expect from Samsung for its next flagship device but we hadn’t heard that the handset would be rocking a 12 megapixel camera, even from rumors, until now. Given that HTC and Sony have already announced handsets with 16 and 12 megapixel cameras, it’s looking like the start of a new trend. With ridiculous camera sensors found on mobile phones today, we wish that some manufacturer would squeeze in a Xenon flash at some point.
We can expect the Galaxy S III to likely sport the same size and tech as the Galaxy Nexus when it comes to the screen, giving the handset a 4.65 inch HD Super AMOLED display. If the guys at Samsung have managed to bring a HD Super AMOLED Plus display to market and debut it in the Galaxy S III, we’d probably pee in excitement.
Also rumored for the Galaxy S III is a quad-core processor of some sort, possibly clocked a 1.5 to 1.6GHz. This isn’t much of a surprise, as we’re bound to see quite a few handsets shipping with quad-core guts, most of which with the NVIDIA Tegra 3. The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich handset will obviously have TouchWiz running on top and just because it’s obvious doesn’t make us like it any more. We understand that manufacturers need to differentiate their handsets but it’s a shame they must go about doing so by covering up the best version of Android to date.
What’s possibly the juiciest rumor of them all is that the highly anticipated handset could be released as soon as April of this year.
Here’s to an awesome upcoming Mobile World Congress!
