Yahoo thinks there’s money to be made in app recommendations, hence they’re using the power of its brand to make it easier for smartphone users to discover new applications. The newly launched Yahoo! App Search spans iOS and Android apps, though Android titles are at the moment more prominently placed on the site.
You can either browse through categories or search for the games and apps you like. The search is especially neat, allowing for filtering through results by price, category and device (iPhone/Android). When you think about it – this works much better than the default Android Market.
Speaking of which, Yahoo pulls the app description and user comments from the Android Market, while iPhone users will have to click on the link and actually visit Apple’s AppStore to read what other folks think about certain apps.
Now we’re not sure what Yahoo is planning to do going forward. Will they include Windows Phone apps as well? What about other platforms? Guess we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you’re free to check out the Yahoo! App Search from here.
