British retailer Phones 4U launched an interesting scheme, allowing early-adopters to easily upgrade their phones every 6 months. Dubbed JUMP (that’s “Just Upgrade My Phone”), it includes signing a double agreement, one with a carrier and the other one with Phones 4U, while also including various trade-in options for switching devices before the service agreement is up.
The retailer says it will guarantee a trade-in value of at least 100 GBP for the first twelve months, while also allowing customers to throw-in up to two more devices to increase their overall trade-in value. Needless to say, these phones need to functional, though some cosmetic wear is acceptable.
For instance, Phones 4U points to the current deals for the iPhone 4S. If you’re interested to grab Apple’s smartphone, you can get it for free on a standard two-year agreement for 35 GBP per month, or get it on JUMP for 37.99 GBP. The latter option is split into two sections: 15 GBP service fees to a carrier, and 22.99 GBP to the retailer for the iPhone itself, which you will be able to upgrade once the iPhone 5 is out (presuming you fancy so).
As early adopters, we like schemes like these, though we’re not sure they’ll work for majority of users. Then again, the majority doesn’t need to JUMP from one phone to the other every six months. On the other hand, getting some love from early adopters can help Phones 4U get media love, as illustrated by this post. 😉
