Verizon Wireless: We’re in a solid spectrum position

Verizon Wireless is in perfect standing when it comes to any spectrum concerns, according to comments from CEO Dan Mead.

Mead said the company doesn’t need to refarm any spectrum being used for its 2G and CDMA EV-DO networks for LTE services. This could be some good reassurance for those who have valid concerns, especially with the company’s rapid expansion of its 4G LTE network.

Big Red is in good shape, as the company runs its EV-DO service over its PCS spectrum and has holdings of 800 MHz cellular spectrum. In an interview with Global Telecoms Business, Mead did acknowledge that these networks carry massive traffic, which prompted him to say that the number one carrier in the United States is “always looking at making sure we use the spectrum we have as efficiently as we can.”

The amount of activity on Verizon Wireless’s network will grow even larger once the cellular provider implements its plan of having all future smartphones carry its LTE service, as the company using its 700 MHz C Block spectrum to cover the country with 4G, while AWS spectrum will be on standby to help supplement that coverage in the future (assuming VZ gets approval on its AWS transaction).
At this point everyone should know by now how far ahead Verizon is in its 4G network compared to the rest of the field.
