Chinese Baidu is about to enter the mobile services market, big time. During the recent earnings conference call, the company’s Chief Executive Robin Li said this year they’ll be looking to take advantage of China’s booming mobile market.
Here’s what he said:
We do think mobile will become a very important channel to distribute our products and that has increasingly become true over the past quarter. And we think during the coming year, mobile will represent an ever larger percentage of our total traffic.
In the past, we have not spent any resources in monetizing the mobile traffic. But starting from this year, we will do something to figure out how to better serve our customers on our mobile platform.
If you recall Baidu started working on its own version of Android called Yi back in September 2011 and I guess this latest development is another step in their mission to conquer the hearts and minds of Chinese mobile users. We’ll see how that goes…
