Yandex launches 3D UI for Android tablets

Yandex, the new owner of SPB Software, is using Mobile World Congress to launch SPB Yandex Shell 3D for Android tablets. Similarly to the smartphone version, the tablet UI also comes with glasses-free 3D UI, allowing interested mobile operators and OEMs to differentiate their products from the competition, which may or may not have its own custom UI running on top of Google’s mobile OS.

Using the auto-stereoscopic technology, Yandex Shell 3D Tablet Edition creates an “immersive 3D experience” without the need for specialized screens. Moreover, the software enables end-users to personalize their devices with colors, themes and widgets.

The UI home screen features a carousel design from where you get to see panels of all of your apps and widgets in 3D. Aside from choosing from existing Android widget, you can also use special Yandex widgets, including a clock with 60 different skins and a 3D calendar. Moreover, there’s also a special widget tool that can 3D-enable other widgets.

So what do we think about Yandex Shell 3D Tablet Edition? Considering that the mobile version has been hugely successful in the Android Market, it’s kinda fair to argue the tablet app will repeat the success. Moreover, with an ever increasing number of tablet makers, something tells this isn’t the last time we’re hearing about Yandex and that soon enough some (smart) company will license the UI for its products. We’ll see…
