With iPad 3 announcement just hours away, we talk about its impact on corporate network traffic, and whether companies that have formal Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) programs will be able to handle the increased demand for bandwidth.
Brocade surveyed some 120 IT decision-makers and will soon release the full report. In the meantime, here’s what they share:
- Almost 40% of respondents indicated that employees use mobile devices to access their corporate networks regardless of an official BYOD policy.
- 65% of them have already invested in campus LANs since 2009 to address tablet and smartphone usage.
- 60% of the respondents said their organization relies on networking solutions from multiple vendors to achieve their goals.
- More than 30% of decision-makers expect traffic on their networks to increase as a direct result of the iPad 3.
- Meanwhile, almost 40% said they are making no additional investments in their networks to account for this traffic increase.
For the time being not too much will change in corporate environments. However, when push comes to shove an increase in network infrastructure spending will be required or, God forbid, BYOD policies will be revised…
