Well, this didn’t take long. The iOS hacking community has cooked up another jailbreak, this time for the newly released iOS 5.1 update. Now users have the ability to tether their iProducts to whatever computer or device they please, courtesy of an updated version to the Redsn0w jailbreak tool. But there is a catch, in order for you to take advantage of this unlocked access, the tool requires your iOS device to be connected to a computer to boot. It works for all A4 or older iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, but unfortunately, the A5 iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are a no go.
Lets be clear. The jailbreak is tethered, so this means you’ll need to connect your device to a computer to boot tethered each time it is switched off for whatever reason, this of course blows but the software is still in the early stages. Hey, this tethered version is limited but it’s a lot better than nothing.
If you’re brave give it a run through, there’s a bunch of information over at Redmond Pie, and it can be done on Windows computer or a Mac. Keep in mind once you tinker with your phone all bets are off when it comes to your warranty, so tread with caution. Also, when it comes to getting your hands on an untethered jailbreak, you’ll have to wait until the devs makes it available.
