Ultrabrief: The official HTC One X naming guide, so we’re all on the same page

Earlier today I published a piece highlighting some benchmark numbers from HTC’s One X, the version with Qualcomm’s S4 Snapdragon inside. For those of you who don’t know this, there are two One X variants. The Europeans and the Asians are going to get the version of the One X with a quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3, but no 4G LTE. Americans are going to get a 4G LTE enabled version, but it’ll have a dual core Qualcomm S4. Based on the numbers, the Qualcomm equipped version might actually be better.

Anyway, that’s not the point of this article. What I want to do is to set the record straight on what the HTC One X will actually be called. I can’t tell you how much time I wasted combing through press releases and HTC’s various websites to try and figure out if the One X is indeed the One X and not the One XL.

Big thanks to Jeff Gordon from HTC for sending me the following statement, which he’s given me permission to share with you:

“The HTC One XL was announced during Mobile World Congress as the LTE version of the HTC One X (hence the ‘L’ in ‘XL’). It will be available in select LTE markets in the US, Asia and Australia. In the US, we’ve announced AT&T will carry the LTE version with the original HTC One X name.”

So there you have it. The 4G LTE enabled One X is called the XL, except in America, where it’s called the One X, just like the European/Asian version. Confusing? A little bit, but at least I don’t have to pull my hair out trying to figure this stuff out anymore.
