Sprint is moving closer toward releasing one of its first LTE handsets, the LG Viper 4G. We knew the LG Viper was hitting store shelves soon, once a document leaked last week. The company is slowly rolling out its LTE network, with the first test in Kankakee, Ill, so Sprint will begin to offer LTE devices more rapidly in the next few weeks.
If you need a refresher, the Viper carries some sparingly decent specs, like a 4 inch WVGA display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 5 megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, NFC (Near-field Communication) chip, micro SD card slot, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of ROM, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The LG Viper isn’t a powerhouse phone, but for $99 after a two-year contract agreement, you’d be hard pressed to say it doesn’t stack up against other mid-range priced devices like AT&T’s Lumia 900. The Now Network says pre-orders for the Viper 4G starts today, and that the phone will be selling in stores on April 22.
That being said, Sprint seems to be going forward with LTE phones even though its network currently lacks a legit 4G network nationwide, it’ll be interesting to see how the company navigates through its shortcomings.
