I’ve been in Seoul for the last week and I just took a tour of the amazing Samsung D’light store and art installation. Along with a variety of cell phones, tablets, televisions and computers, there were some interesting concept devices like the Smart Window. As you can see from the video below, it’s some cool tech.
Samsung wants the windows of the future to be smart. Using its ambient light and touchscreen technology, this turns your window into a computer of sorts. You can browse the web on it, look up recipes, play back media, book trips and more. Of course, this is supposed to function as a window, so you even pull the virtual shades and it will block out the light coming from outside.
I’m not sure of the nitty gritty details on this, as it definitely needs some processing, power and Internet connectivity. That also means that retrofitting these into existing houses soon will likely be a pain. Samsung is a manufacturing giant here in Korea, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see it building its own building with these Smart Windows from the ground up.
There’s no telling how soon these will actually be in homes but watch the video below and let us know what you think. Look for a full tour of the Samsung D’light building soon.
