Hands-On with the Samsung Galaxy Note’s new Premium App Suite

Whether or not it was a complete surprise to Samsung that the Galaxy Note would become so popular, it has proved that there’s definitely a market for tablet/phone hybrid devices. To sweeten the deal for its own Note, Samsung has released a new Premium Suite of applications that make the S-Pen experience even better. We’ve spent the past week with the new applications, so read on to get the details on the Premium Suite.

The new Premium Suite will soon come packaged with the upcoming Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, so now there’s even more to look forward to.

The most notable application from the Premium Suite is S Note, which has been on the Galaxy Note since day one but has received a rather significant update. Some of the new features include shape, text, and math recognition, along with the ability to annotate PDF files. There are also new templates to make your S Notes even more fun.

Shape recognition – Whether you’re just doodling or trying to make a quick chart on your Galaxy Note, drawing shapes just got a lot easier. Now you can draw the messiest squares, circles, ovals, and other shapes in an S Note, the application will recognize the shape and redraw it at perfect scale with straight lines and perfect curves.

Math Equations – If you have a math equation you want solved and are too lazy to jump into the Calculator application on your phone, you can simply write in a new S Note and search for the answer from there.

Knowledge Search – Now you can write a question down in a new Note, the text will be recognized and you can then search the written inquiry using Wolfram Alpha’s database.

Templates – The S Note application now ships with 7 new pre-made templates to choose from, all varying in features and functionality. Our favorite is a template that will allow you to record yourself drawing a new Note and send the recording  to someone else. It’s like Draw Something, only useful.

S Memo Widget – Samsung now provides a nifty new widget for S Note, which allows you to jump right into a specific function of S Note right from your homescreen.

My Story – While not pre-installed with the update, another application called My Story lets you send and receive personalized greeting cards. You can add your own music and pictures, and even animate your handwriting so the person can watch your write the greeting. You can grab My Story from the Google Play store here.

Sure, the Premium Suite may look like a few modest updates to a select number of applications but we definitely appreciate Samsung’s effort in giving the Galaxy Note a nice helping of productivity options. The handset is already unique and the Premium Suite just makes it more fun to get your Note on.

The update will become available to users starting July 10th, so you don’t have much longer to wait!
