Food and Drink category now live in the iOS App Store

As promised, Apple has added a new category to the App Store ahead of a major overhaul in iOS 6. Food-related applications such as restaurant and recipe apps were previously housed in the “Lifestyle” section of the App Store, but have now been relocated to the newly created “Food and Drink” section, which has already been populated with thousands of free and paid applications.

Apple has given guidelines as to when the new category would be used, noting that apps that “help users cook and bake, mix drinks, manage recipes, find new restaurants and bars, and learn what their friends like to eat and drink” would be included in the Food and Drink section, while apps that help users diet or include grocery shopping, coupon-clipping, and food-related games would not be found in the new section.

If nothing else, adding a Food and Drink section will make it easier to navigate the App Store, which is always a welcomed addition to something you browse on a relatively small screen. The change should have already gone live on your iOS device.
