In case you didn’t know, mobile app market needs an additional acceleration. Or at least that’s what GSMA and the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) think so they announced an agreement to integrate the major programmes and initiatives driven by WAC into the GSMA.
Further to this agreement, Apigee, a leading provider of API products and services, has acquired WAC’s technology assets. The company will continue to develop the WAC Web Run Time and network APIs and will provide these assets as a managed service to the GSMA and its mobile operator members…
That’s all cool but as a smartphone user I doubt you’ll see anything tangible out of this deal no matter how powerful the GSMA is. Most of us will rather keep tuning to Google Play, Apple AppStore or whichever app market you prefer to use to get all the apps. Perhaps folks with feature phones may notice new widgets or something of that sort but that’s only good until they switch boats and get a smartphone, too.
On the other hand, we may see more carriers providing billing services thanks to WAC’s Payment API that enables customers to pay for digital goods via their operator bill…
