Yellow Nokia Lumia 800 appears in China — the real thing or an ingenious bootleg?

Nokia has been popping up in the headlines as of late, with the possible unveiling of new Windows Phone 8 handsets at its event on Sept. 5. Now pics have surfaced of a mystical yellow-ish Lumia 800/900 device that’s believed to be an old prototype. These images posted at Chinese microblogging site Sina, and the prototype device is supposedly running Windows Phone 8 or Windows Phone 7.8 with the new smaller tiles Start Screen.

In all honesty, no one knows if this thing is legit or just an ingenious bootleg. However, we’ve heard rumblings about a yellow colored Lumia 800 since last year, when a French blog broke the news. I guess the smart thing to do is just chalk this one up as speculation, at least until we hear or see something from Nokia at its Nokia World event early next month.

Would you like for Nokia to release a yellow colored device?
